Packing 101

Our vacation is coming up and I can hardly wait. It seems like vacations are always too short and too far between. This year we are going to Chicago for a family member’s wedding and we are going to stay in town for a few extra days so we can enjoy the lovely city and visit with family.

Since we are going to be gone for so long packing has been quite the hurdle. I think this time I finally figured out the whole packing thing so I thought I’d share my tactics with you. I also want to do an update after my trip so I can let you know how well I packed (basically what I wore and what I didn’t).

The first trick to packing is to become familiar with the weather wherever you’re going. Chicago is humid and by taking a peak at the 10 day forecast I can see that it is going to be pretty hot there. If you aren’t sure how to pack then Google some bloggers in that area and see what they’ve been wearing.

My next bit of advice is to actually plan out outfits. I know, I know, it can be very time consuming. We are staying with family so I’m sure we are going to want to spend time with them. Having preplanned outfits helps you to maximize that time so you can actually relax on your trip.

When packing outfits, make sure you try everything on to make sure it all goes together. This way you can also coordinate jewelry and shoes. That being said, I think I doubled whatever the acceptable number of pairs of shoes to pack for one week. What can I say, I like shoes!

Now I have a problem where I go through moods of what I want to wear. This is why you throw in a couple of extra items, just in case. This applies not only for moods, but also for stains or sweating through something. If you pack the outfits together then you can easily go through your suitcase without wrinkling everything up.

Packing can be a daunting task, but if you try and get it done a couple of days in advance then you will have a much less stressful experience. Plus, you won’t have to worry about throwing your favorite top in the wash the night before. Hopefully this post will help you become a packing wizard!
