Las Vegas: A Packing Guide

This was taken in the Bellagio Gardens on the last day of trip. Be prepared for very little sleep- Sin City never sleeps!

Recently I took a vacation to Las Vegas with my husband and in-laws. It was my very first time and I had a blast. I think there is an equation to packing for any trip but there are definitely things you need to keep in mind when traveling to Las Vegas. After spending a few days there I think I have come up with some great tips on how to survive Sin City.

You need to be realistic on which shoes you should bring. If you plan on walking the entire strip then you need to wear sneakers. There are plenty of cute sneakers to choose from. I wore my Converse shoes. They go with everything and are comfortable. I tried to wear flats and my feet were killing me after only a couple of hours (and that was with gel inserts). You also need to pack multiple shoes. My Converse sneakers were very comfortable, but I still needed to switch shoes halfway through the day to give my feet a break. I went in the cooler months, but if you are going to go in the summer time then you need to bring extra socks.

The weather in Vegas is very temperamental. We went in February and it was cold in the mornings and evenings but hot during the afternoons. I would plan for two outfits everyday you are there- one for the morning/early afternoon and one for the evening. It’s in a desert and deserts get very cold at night!

I may be spoiled living in smoke-free California, but honestly the smoke is extreme in Las Vegas. You will regret it if you do not pack eye drops and nasal spray. They are simply not optional!

It is important to bring a bag big enough to carry a camera and anything you need to get through a day of walking without being too heavy. My Louis Vuitton Speedy 25 did an amazing job at both. It could fit my DSLR in addition to many other items without being too heavy. And be sure to get plenty of cash before leaving! ATM fees in casinos are almost $5. Crazy, right? Also, don’t forget a pair of sunglasses! It’s very sunny in Vegas!

Overall, I think the most important thing when it comes to packing is to bring a lot of items you can use to layer. If it was cold I could throw on a lot of things and then once it started to warm up I removed some of the layers. Las Vegas is a fun place and packing right will take you from having a good time to having a great time!
